Slimbridge Wetlands Visitor Center

The Wetlands Wildlife Trust is a millennium project for a masterplan, ecological management strategy, and new visitor center at the WWT Bird Sanctuary near Slimbridge, UK. The project added new water bodies, a reed bed purification plant, as well new facilities for 300,000 visitors per annum, including include a restaurant, exhibition, galleries, and a tourist shop.

Timber ramps bring the visitor up to first level entrance to give immediate views over the flat wetland landscape. The visitors may continue skyward to a 16-meter viewing tower, which provides more extensive views to the Severn Estuary, or they may explore the redeveloped galleries and extensive pathways of the grounds.

Natural materials such as red brick, green oak and shingles were used in the construction of the centre.
