Hamlet

ONE POWERFUL DESIGN GESTURE

The director decided to set the play in 1930s, a period of powerful shifts in European politics. Visually this meant a polished look of lacquered furniture and simple shapes. The set was dominated by a single long table, positioned diagonally on the stage that served as a formal dinging table while also provided an expressive walkway, according to the needs of the mise-en-scene. Instead of chairs, movable elements were used that could be pulled out to create various configurations.
