OsmannoroFlorence, Italy Summer 2005With a catchment zone including cities such as Florence, Pisa and Bologna, Osmannoro has the potential to draw around 2.8 million visitors annually. With a history of purely industrial development in the region, a powerful solution was necessary to revitalize the area.
Incorporating Osmannoro’s wetlands, Avci Architects created a series of recreational active zones, which support and link to its retail centre. This centre is devised as a series of open-air streets and squares, covered and shaded by a single (and singular) canopy design, which responds to the natural undulations of the landscape.
