Our approach for the Al-Haram Mosque expansion has drawn inspiration from the role of the Ka’bah as the Qibla, as well as the spiraling motion of the Tawaf. The grid used in the extension echoes this powerful circular motion, and ripples outward to give the entire Mosque this powerful symbolic configuration of the Ka’bah being connected to the prayers of Muslims around the world.
